The robot takeover has begun. It was only a matter of time before those handy little household vacuums attached spinning blades to themselves and made their way into our yards. Here’s everything you need to know about 2019’s best robotic lawn mowers.
This 44-pound bot comes equipped with two blades, allowing it to cut a massive 22” path. It comes with an adjustable knob to control grass height and has a run time of 70 minutes. Reviewers state it does an excellent job cutting right to the boundary of a marked yard, and it comes with an app for iOS and Android, allowing you to make some adjustments on the fly or steer it toward a specific area.
Husqvarna Automower 220 AC
The lightweight and nimble Husqvarna is best for smaller lawns. It comes in at just 19 pounds, with a 60-minute run time. The Automower has three short blades, cutting just an 8.5” path, and has limited adjustability on height compared to some of the other models.
Worx Landroid M
With the smallest cutting path of the three, the Landroid has just a 7” swath. The smaller mower weighs around 20 pounds and comes with a built-in rain sensor and adjustable cutting height to ensure a cleaner cut. According to reviewers, this mower was the easiest of the three to set up.
All three mowers require a small, low-voltage wire to be run around the perimeter of the yard to mark mowing boundaries. They all also come with standard safety features that stop the blade if the mower is lifted and turn the mower around if it bumps something like a toy or garden hose. Additionally, they all automatically return to their charging stations after use or when their batteries are low.
The type of mower you need is based largely on the size of your yard. All three are reported to run at the same noise level as a window AC unit, allowing them to run day or night, depending on when you’ve programmed them to run. If you hate cutting grass, this may be your solution, but we predict that the technology will improve and get more affordable over time.
